Super Mario RPG level up guide and which stats to increase

Super Mario RPG has just released on Switchand if you’ve played the game, you’ve probably upgraded your characters once or twice. Or ten times. Anyway, you may be wondering how to gain additional experience points and what character stats you should increase as they level up. We’ve put together all this and more information in our Super Mario RPG level-up guide. There are mild spoilers ahead, including a small hint at the game’s final area and all party members, but nothing too major otherwise. Keep this in mind before proceeding.
Quick guide to leveling up
You could just trample your enemies over and over again, but there’s a better way to do it. Once you reach Seaside Town, you will find one of the Frog Sage’s students on the second floor of one of the houses. He sells an Exp Booster item that you can equip as an accessory to a party member. Regardless of your position in the story – whether you need to make an effort to face a boss or just need to level up a few after the game – you will definitely need this item. However, you will need Frog Coins to purchase this item. So make sure you have enough of them.
Without going into too much detail (to avoid spoilers), the best enemies to level up against in the postgame are the silver-looking ones in the final area. They’ll definitely help you out if you want to challenge one of the game’s new boss rematches.
Best stats that can be increased for each character
Next up in our Super Mario RPG level up guide is choosing which stats to increase. If your party members Do As you level up, you have the option to choose one of their stats to increase. You can increase physical attack and defense, HP or magic. Although you can compose each party member as you wish, each one has some sort of “intended purpose,” and you can advance their intended purpose by always selecting the same stat as you level up.
Mario is a physical attacker, so it’s best to increase his skills physical harm. HP works too, but he’s one of the team’s strongest hitters and could certainly use the firepower. Mallow definitely wants one magical boost, because his best attack spells are tough. HP works here too if you prefer to relegate him to a more supportive position.
Geno really wants one magical boost. Once he reaches high level, he has a ton of attack spells and is generally too weak for HP to be worth your time. Bowser wants both physical harm or HP, although we would recommend the former. The reason we recommend physical damage for Bowser is because Peach is the tank of the group – Increase your HP and equip her with the Lazy Shell armor and you’ll never have to worry about her sinking. In fact, Peach is such a good tank that you can safely invest in the group’s non-HP stats to compensate.
