Any Survivor fan knows that any time of year, the conditions on the island push shipwrecked people to the limit, both physically and mentally, and Survivor 42 was no exception.

A newly released deleted scene shows Season 42 contestant Maryanne Oketch, the 23-year-old college student from Ajax, Ontario, who collapses on Day 18 due to the misery of the ongoing rain and cold. Here’s what you need to know:

Maryanne can’t remember what it feels like to be warm

in one deleted scene posted from TikTok account @allwinnerssurvivor (above) shows how the participants endure the miserable living conditions amidst torrential rain and cold. And despite being from Canada, Maryanne seems to be suffering the worst.

The scene, set on Day 18, the day after the “split” double Tribal Councils in Episode 9, begins with a confessional from Maryanne saying, “I’m someone who hates getting wet and I hate being to freeze. She adds, “If you can’t remember what it feels like to be warm, your morale will continually drop.”

Back at camp, when Maryanne is shown crouching and shivering under the shelter, 57-year-old Mike Turner chimes in, saying, “Just sit in the rain and freeze all night. Isn’t that the craziest thing?” Lindsay Dolashewich, standing in front of the shelter, describes the structure as a “damp, dark cave,” adding that “It definitely felt colder there” than outside the shelter.

Jonathan Young then successfully lights a flame and ignites a new fire. But almost as if on cue, it starts raining again immediately afterwards, forcing them to find new makeshift shelter for the fire.

Maryanne has a breakdown

Describing Day 18 as “one of the hardest days of my life,” Maryanne describes the misery as “just letting the rain pour down on her and not being able to start a fire,” adding that all her Clothes “soaked through” are freezing.”

The next morning, Maryanne begins to break down in a new confessional, saying that “the only thing that kept me going was knowing that tomorrow the sun would have come up and I could dry my clothes and feel warm”. However, the rain stopped on day 19.

Tearfully, Maryanne continues, “I’ve been trying to get a blaze so I can wear some clothes to sleep at night because it gets so cold.”

Undoubtedly, Season 42 is certainly a challenge for the contestants; In fact, host Jeff Probst has repeatedly stated that “Survivor 41” and “42” were among the toughest seasons of all time for players, even calling Season 42 “the most dangerous version of ‘Survivor’ ever seen.”

Furthermore, Jonathan, who is known for his tall stature and physical abilities, nearly “passed out” just days before this deleted scene due to the extreme living conditions imposed on him by the production. However, everything turned out more or less fine for him after winning some food in a reward challenge. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of many of the other, smaller contestants like Maryanne. Hopefully she and the other six remaining players get through the last week with little trouble.

“Survivor 42” airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. Eastern on CBS. The three-hour finale will air Wednesday, May 25, 2022.
