Two-time “Survivor” contestant Yung “Woo” Hwang made a surprise public announcement late Tuesday: He and his wife Kristina are expecting their first child together, a baby boy. Here’s what you need to know:
Woo made his announcement on Instagram
On Tuesday, Woo made a contribution (above) as well as a series of stories on Instagram revealing that he and his wife Kristina Hamilton are expecting their first child. In the post, Woo and Kristina are seen on a beach on the coast of California, Woo’s home state, climbing a lifeguard tower while showing their silhouettes and Kristina’s baby bump against the sunset. Then they launched a blue confetti cannon, all against the backdrop of Israel Kamakawiwo’oles “somewhere Over the RainbowHome page. In the caption, Woo simply wrote “MOM + DAD.”
The Survivor community reacted positively to the announcement, with Woo’s Cambodia cast members Abi-Maria Gomes and Kelley Wentworth responding, “Omg 😱 Congratulations 💙” and “That’s so cute 💕 Congratulations to you both! 🥳” and when a fan asked if Abi-Maria, who was known for her sporadic and vindictive manner on Survivor, did that mean she forgave Woo for choosing her (twice) on Cambodia , she replied: “Water under the bridge 🌉.”
Xander Hastings, who took part in the final season of Survivor 41, also shared his congratulations, writing, “I’m so happy for you guys, that’s awesome!!”
courting just engaged to his partner in August 2015, shortly after returning from filming his second season of Survivor in Cambodia. They then married about two years later, according to one Instagram post celebrated their two year wedding anniversary in July 2017.
Woo is a fan favorite in the Survivor community
Woo, now 38, was 29 when he first appeared in 2014’s Survivor: Cagayan. He was a major figure in the fan-favorite season, dominating the series of post-merge blindsides alongside fellow ally Tony Vlachos. Since Survivor, Woo has actually opened a gym in Huntington Beach, California specializing in martial arts training. As he said in a Parade interview 2015Shortly after his second “Survivor” appearance, he opened his gym “with a few business partners, and it’s going really well. I work as a personal trainer, as a strength coach, as a martial arts teacher. I surfed a lot.
