Sydney train delays: Communications problem halts all public transport, commuter chaos ahead

Commuters hoping to get around or leave Sydney this afternoon have been warned to expect chaos after a communications problem brought down the city’s entire network.

All trains were brought to a standstill just after 3pm on Wednesday over the problem.

“Expect a lot of extra travel time due to a communication problem on the train,” warned Sydney Trains.

“Trains may stop longer than normal on platforms or between stations while the problem is ongoing.

“We expect this to continue into the afternoon rush hour.”

The computer screens at the main train station in the city’s central business district, which normally show the stops and the next upcoming trains, were completely blank after the failure.
