New details on the upcoming Star Wars anthology series, Tales of the Jedi, have been revealed, including the return of Liam Neeson.
The Star Wars universe is expanding at an ever-accelerating pace, and while every fan settles in to see Obi-Wan Kenobi, LucasFilm wastes no time in announcing what’s next for the iconic sci-fi franchise.
Now, more details about the franchise’s upcoming animated anthology series, Tales of the Jedi, have been revealed at a reveal event in the US. Following in the footsteps of The Clone Wars, The Bad Batch and Visions, this new series is set to explore the background of several established characters and even include a return of the legendary Liam Neeson as Qui-Gon Jinn.
What is Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi about?
Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi is an upcoming animated anthology series created by veteran sci-fi universe Dave Filoni (The Clone Wars, The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Resistance and The Bad Batch).
The new show also shares the same name as a series of graphic novels published between 1993 and 1998, but it seems the two titles are unrelated.
Tales of the Jedi will feature several prequel-era character stories, primarily focusing on Count Dooku and Ahsoka Tano, but also featuring Qui-Gon Jinn, Mace Windu and Yaddle, as well as many other established characters.
As reported by Star Wars Explained youtube Channel in their breakdown video of the event, Liam Neeson will return to voice Qui-Gon Jinn, and his real-life son Michael will take on the role of young Qui-Gon.
Interestingly enough, the legendary actor recently stated that his return to the Stra Wars universe would likely take the form of a movie rather than a television series or even an animated series. Speak with comic bookNeeson said in response to his possible return as Qui-Gon Jinn:
“Oh, I think so, yes, yes, yes, I think so…if it were a movie. Yeah I’m a bit of a snob when it comes to TV, I have to admit I just love the big screen you know? Qui-Gon, I can’t believe it’s been 24 years since we did it [Star Wars:] The Phantom Menace, I just can’t believe where the time has gone.” — Liam Neeson, via comic book.
When will Tales of the Jedi be released and with how many episodes?
The May events panel confirmed that Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi will premiere on Disney in Fall 2022 with six episodes.
Unfortunately, a more precise date was not announced at the most recent event or any of the subsequent news items; However, all six episodes are expected to be available on the same day, as is the other title in the Star Wars animated anthology, Visions.
While three of the episodes focus on Dooku and the other three on Ahsoka, fans are all too aware that the possibilities for future Tales of the Jedi content are limitless. As noted by The Direct“With Ahsoka and Dooku taking the lead in season one, the door opens to endless future possibilities with other Jedi, not just from the prequel trilogy, but across the saga.”
“Tales of the Jedi might even provide a way to return to Rey’s story or see more of Luke Skywalker’s downfall before continuing the trilogy.” – The Direct.
At the recent Reveal event panel, several screenshots and previews were shown exclusively to the crowd. As reported by Bespin Bulletinother teasers included Padme’s funeral, Ahsoka fighting an inquisitor, and Yaddle vs Dooku.
Tales of the Jedi seems to be in the same animation style as the previous animated series, mainly The Bad Batch and The Clone Wars. The Star Wars explained youtube The video dispels our doubts about its quality, stating that “even though they are short films, it doesn’t look like the cut at all”.
