Taliban Separation of Religion, Power, and Girls’ School

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan — The ministers of the Taliban government think the problem of girls’ education has been solved. Schools for girls above the sixth grade were set to reopen this past March, after months.
Then the Taliban’s religious council, dominated by radical clerics, carried out the plan. Hours before the school gates were supposed to reopen, it was announced that they would remain closed. Teenage girls who went to school in uniform were turned away.
