The first thing that catches your eye is the bright yellow baton pouch, which is a nod to the famous scoreboards the R&A uses to display its results and, as always, to congratulate the Golf Champion of the Year.

Something very special about the large sidewalls is that Taylormade’s designers have used two different typefaces in honor of local football clubs Everton and Liverpool, who play in the annual Merseyside direct derby match. It is the longest-running derby game in England, having been played annually since 1962.

The raised wave pattern symbolizes the Mercy River, which separates the Wirral Peninsula from mainland Britain, where Royal Liverpool resides on the north-west corner.

Another camouflaged message in the golf bag’s design is the ‘Kingsway’ and ‘Queensway’ markings above the umbrella pockets for the aptly named tunnels that connect the mainland to the peninsula.

Finally, the numbers 270 and 271 represent previous wins at Hoylake by TaylorMade employees Tiger Woods in 2006 and Rory McIlroy in 2014.

As with the club bag, themes are carried over to the club covers, with the putter covers also representing the famous scoreboard and the green driver and fairway wood covers representing the starter’s clock at first tee.
