Teddi Mellencamp talks to Erika Jayne about her ‘fake amnesia’ comment.

During an episode of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” that aired in 2018, Teddi Mellencamp and Dorit Kemsley were going back and forth over dinner as Mellencamp tried to get Kemsley to admit to something she said weeks earlier about Lisa Vanderpump was part of the cast at the time.

Erika Jayne spoke up to blow things up, but Mellencamp eventually called her out — and Mellencamp fired back.

“Erika, in that moment you said 100 percent, ‘Teddi, I agree with you, it would have hurt my feelings,'” Mellencamp said.

“Maybe I have, maybe I haven’t – it’s possible,” answered Erika. Mellencamp then tells Erika that she “pretended to have complete amnesia.” Things escalated from there, and Erika brought up the “fake amnesia” comment again during a cast trip to Berlin.

“I have a problem,” said Girardi at the time. “Pretends amnesia. Amnesia? For sure. Pretend? That implies I’m a liar. Don’t,” she said, after pop culture.

The ladies have since settled their differences and have been able to develop a friendship despite the bumps — but as it turns out, accusing Erika of “fake amnesia” in the first place might not have been Mellencamp’s idea.

Here’s what you need to know:

Mellencamp told Erika that the comment wasn’t really hers

on 04/25/2022, Episode of the Two T’s in a Pod podcast.Kyle Richards, Lisa Rinna and Erika Jayne chatted with Mellencamp — and the “pretending to have amnesia” comment came up.

“I feel like now is a really safe place on the podcast to tell you the comment was ‘fake amnesia’…” Mellencamp said. Whatever she ended her sentence with was inaudible during the episode and was either mouthed, whispered, or paged out. The cast was very surprised by what Mellencamp said.

“I knew it wasn’t you,” Erika replied. “I love you so much,” she added.

“But it wasn’t like he told me to say it. We had gone to dinner the night before, the three of us. And I was mad enough to leave dinner because you were mad at me or who knows what… I took a breath and you gave me that look. And I thought, ‘Why isn’t she behind me?’ And he says, ‘I don’t know. It’s like fake amnesia,'” Mellencamp explained, without revealing who the conversation was with.

“And then when I said it in real life? It was only stored in my memory. He never told me to say it. It was just something he helped me vent on,” she continued.

Erika reacted calmly

At this point, it seems more than obvious that the “fake amnesia” comment is water under the bridge. Still, Mellencamp seemed to want Erika to know the comment wasn’t something she made up of herself — and it was just another way for her to clear the air.

“That’s good. And when I look back on it, and when you look back, you know, that’s what I hated…” Erika said. Changing her voice to dramatically mimic an angry mimic, she said she herself really didn’t remember the conversation and insisted she wasn’t lying.

Who Mellencamp might have been speaking to when “fake amnesia” came up could have been a producer or even her husband, Edwin Arroyave. Whoever it was, it’s clear Mellencamp doesn’t want to come out.
