Every year during the Super Bowl we get a chance to see some of the best commercials. Creative teams spend millions of dollars to get their product in front of millions of viewers, with mixed success. This is especially true for video game commercials, which can be exquisite or very expensive junk. We’ve made a list of 10 all-time video game Super Bowl ads that we’ll never forget, for better or for worse.

10. World of Tanks – Real Awful Moms Superbowl Ad (2017)

Apparently, having an exciting concept for a Super Bowl commercial is unnecessary as long as you have a tank that goes through the walls. World of Tanks tried this fake reality show formula twice in 2017. If you’re curious, watch the Teensy House Buyers commercial, in which a tank destroys a tiny house.

9. Heroes Arena – Super Bowl Ad (2018)

It doesn’t take much to create an ad for a Super Bowl video game. Easily connect your game to soccer. The Heroes Arena commercial dedicates six seconds to the most popular American sport, while everything else is just gameplay. Look up “nothing special” in a dictionary and you will find this advertisement as an example.

8. Meta Quest 2 – Old Friends, New Fun Ad (2022)

Meta is looking for all her money and trying to prove to everyone that her VR set is cool. That may very well be, but according to this commercial, it’s already on the way to being discontinued. Because nothing convinces me, Meta Quest 2 as an advertisement with the message “Screen images are simulated and not representative of the current product. User experience will vary”.

7. God of War Ragnarok – The Great Game (2023)

Apparently, Kratos is a big soccer fan since this is his second appearance on this video game promotional list. This time we see the main quest of God of War: Ragnarok in the contemporary setting of Super Bowl LVII. The video is a bit underwhelming as the 2013 God of War Super Bowl commercial is far superior.

6. Game of War – Who I Am Super Bowl Ad (2015)

Sometimes it’s very easy to create a Super Bowl gaming ad when you have a lot of money to burn. You must have a substantial budget to pay celebrities and a production menu fit for a king. This Game of War commercial begins in a witcher-like bathtub. And just as Kate Upton begins to enjoy herself, she must go into battle and fight against giants and other enemies invading her castle.

5. Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild – Switch and Play Super Bowl Ad (2017)

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wilde was one of the main reasons many people bought Nintendo Switch. This ad was released before the console was even available, so you can imagine the hype when this ad first aired.

4. Clash of Clans – Revenge Super Bowl Commercial (2015)

Liam Neeson found a way to extend his career by defeating all enemies in movies and video games. As you can imagine he can defeat any opponent by being scary in the movie or playing the mobile game and using some of the best heroes in Clash of Clans.

We have a winning formula for the Super Bowl! Combine famous actors and a huge budget with a free-to-play mobile video game in a historical setting. This ad is also a unique opportunity to see Aaron Eckhart and Jeffrey Dean Morgan face off in a quasi-historical movie-like battle!

You can’t go wrong with the combination of Kratos and Gladiator-like visuals. Commercials for Super Bowl games often tend to overdo it with action or humor, but God of War: Ascension hits the heart straight. Whether you are a God of War fan, you cannot be indifferent to this Super Bowl commercial.
