The £15million Aston Villa star wanted to leave but his recent IG post got fans talking

Like a number of Aston Villa players, Douglas Luiz is divided within the fan base, with some thinking he is an underrated player but others questioning what he brings to the table.

The 24-year-old has one year left on his Villa contract and there are rumors he could be heading towards the exit door this summer.

There was a lot of interest in his midfield talents in Italy and Juventus added their name alongside Roma’s for Luiz.

Despite all this talk, when the club’s official Instagram account was bigging up its player, he responded in his IG story by adding a heart emoji next to the word Villa, as you can see below.

Well that’s got plenty of Villa fans talking, some hoping he stays but others just won’t read too much into it.

Some fans have pointed out that while Jack Grealish was at the club he claimed to be “my city, my club, my home” only to have a release clause in his contract and leave him 12 months later – during Villas South American star It’s when he shows his love, it can always mean the opposite, as Grealish proved.

Luiz will no doubt be fond of Villa as a club. Ultimately, they helped advance his career, including the fact that he represented his country for the first time when Brazil won the gold medal with him in midfield at last summer’s Olympics.

But is it all a sign that the player will sign a new contract and stay in the Midlands?

One thing is for sure, if he doesn’t sign Villa will have to do the right thing and sell the player they paid for £15m to Manchester City (Sky Sports) for this summer – he can’t go for nothing.

Luiz has shown enough during his time at the club that he’s worth staying on board.

It has to be remembered that he played the role of number six most of the time, is he that kind of midfielder? no Luiz is better off as number eight with a good defensive midfielder behind him like Boubacar Kamara, signed in the summer.

With that kind of player behind him, it will be interesting to see how Luiz performs when he’s allowed to ramble a little more forward and show off a bit of that Brazilian flair he has in his locker.

Therefore, signing a new deal would be best for the player and the club as they push for a European spot under Steven Gerrard next season.
