Giovani Lo Celso is close to leaving Tottenham Hotspur.

That’s what Calciomercato in Italy reported on Wednesday evening.

The Tottenham midfielder has been linked with Italian sides Lazio and Napoli in recent weeks.

However, Lo Celso has braced himself for a return to Villarreal. Calciomercato explained.

The Argentina international left Spurs to join Unai Emery’s side in the second half of the 2021-22 season and help them to a Champions League semi-final.

And Lo Celso, originally signed by Mauricio Pochettino, looks ready to return to Spain it seems.

The writing has been hanging on the wall for this player for a while.

Antonio Conte left him out in Tottenham’s pre-season friendlies, showing the Italian manager has opted for the South American.

Earlier in the summer it was reported that the Lilywhites’ manager felt Lo Celso was too weak to succeed in the Premier League.

Things clearly haven’t worked out for the 26-year-old in north London, but he remains a very good footballer and one who will most likely thrive under the former Arsenal manager in Spain.

The truth is that Conte just doesn’t need him and a permanent exit is definitely best for both sides.
