Matt Turner to Arsenal is expected to be announced next week.
Corresponding Sky Sportsthe USA international will arrive in north London this Wednesday ahead of his official Arsenal unveiling.
Technically, the Gunners snapped up the 27-year-old keeper just after the January transfer window and a summer arrival was always the plan.
The north Londoners have yet to confirm it or even acknowledge Turner’s existence.
But it’s definitely happening, especially considering Turner himself has already spoken to Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.
Speak with Sky Sports, he has revealed what the Spain coach told him before his move to the Emirates Stadium: “We talked a bit. His main message for me was to focus on what I need to focus on now, get through the next few months, stay healthy, stay fit and prepare for pre-season and competition.”
Matt Turner to Arsenal – a gamble?
Matt Turner to Arsenal will likely see Bernd Leno moved on.
But that’s definitely a risk the Gunners take.
After all, the American stopper has zero experience of Premier League football and considering Leno is an excellent replacement option for Aaron Ramsdale, Arteta’s side could find themselves in trouble if the former Sheffield United goalkeeper is sidelined for an extended period next season.
That being said, Arsenal shouldn’t be in doubt when it comes to goalkeepers.
This time last year, Arteta raised eyebrows for a £30million transfer for Ramsdale that turned out to be an exceptional signing.
And hopefully the same is true for Turner.
