Well, Michael Edwards doesn’t often make mistakes at Liverpool.
You’ll need a lot more than 10 fingers to count the outstanding transfer deals that Liverpool’s director of football has drawn up over the years.
Whether it’s revenue or expenditure, the Reds have invariably done excellent business.
However, Taiwo Awoniyi might just be the exception to this rule.
Grass turns out to be much greener
The Anfield team sold the tall Nigerian striker for just £6.5million last summer [Goal] and, well, he tore up German football this season.
Awoniyi, who never played for Liverpool as a senior due to recurring work permit issues, has scored 16 goals in all competitions this season [Transfermarkt].
For comparison, Roberto Firmino has scored just nine goals in all competitions this season under Jurgen Klopp.
Not that Awoniyi is a better footballer than the Brazil international, but he is proving to be a very effective goalscorer at Union Berlin.
And remember, he’s only 24.
There’s every chance Awoniyi will get a lot of better in the years to come.
Edwards is leaving Liverpool this summer and he is destined to leave a phenomenal legacy.
But maybe – just maybe – Awoniyi will haunt the Reds’ transfer guru.
