Western leaders trying to build a global coalition to isolate Russia over its war against Ukraine face opposition from the world’s largest developing countries, including the democracies of India, Brazil and South Africa.

The opposition, largely out of economic self-interest, is limiting pressure on President Vladimir Putin and putting a spotlight on factions in the world community reminiscent of the Cold War, when many countries sought to distance themselves from the US-Soviet rivalry.
