The Apprentice’s Reece Donnelly reveals he was taken “straight to the hospital” after landing in Dubai

Apprenticeship candidate Reece Donnelly has revealed he has spent some time in hospital in Dubai after feeling “incredibly unwell” during filming.

The 25-year-old theater school owner compared his ordeal to Olivia Attwood after she quit ‘I’m a Celebrity’… Get Me Out of Here! with anemia, adding that medics told him his numbers didn’t match so he could go out in the 45-degree heat.

He also claimed that he had to sit between two escorts on the flight from Dubai, which made it impossible for him to drink alcohol.

Reece told Go Radio: “As some of you may have seen on the air a few weeks ago, I went to Dubai but unfortunately when I got there I was taken straight to a hospital.

“So I spent the four days they spent in the desert and on yachts incredibly uncomfortable.

“When I came back to the UK it basically boiled down to the idea that I couldn’t continue the show due to a health issue that I actually contracted before going to Dubai. I wasn’t aware of this.

“As you will know, probably very similar in case anyone knew, Olivia Attwood and what happened last year. It’s all very boring.”

Reece explained that medics came to check on him regularly and after speaking to Lord Sugar it was decided he would leave the show.

He said: “We get medics every few days who say, ‘Your numbers don’t match so you can go out in the 45 degree heat, you better go and get fixed up.’

“Long story short, I basically had a conversation with the brave big man, Lord Sugar, and we made the management decision that I was retiring this year.

Responding to reports he had been drinking on his flight home, Reece said, ‘May I add, you’re sitting between two companions and you’re lucky if you can get an orange juice, let alone a bottle of wine, so it’s just bizarre.’

“You sit between two companions and your fear of moving if information then hits you to make you laugh and learn.”

Reece didn’t specify that he had anemia, but Olivia previously opened up about her ordeal after being forced to leave I’m A Celebrity.

Reece told Go Radio, “I was in Dubai but when I got there I was taken straight to a hospital.”

A routine blood test, which all of the jungle camp roommates happen to undergo during the show, suddenly and inexplicably revealed she was dangerously anemic.

It also indicated worryingly low levels of sodium and potassium, prompting ITV staff to take her to the emergency room immediately.

At the time, Olivia said: “I was absolutely devastated. I’m not a screamer but I started crying it was so emotional. I was heartbroken and gutted. I tried to keep my emotions in check and perspective, things could be so much worse.

“Then the show’s staff told me that everyone liked me and that I was the favorite to win, so leaving felt like a punch in the stomach.

“Just two days before I jumped out of a helicopter that I loved. I made an attempt that I loved. I was so happy and excited. It was an extreme high to an extreme low. I felt empty.”
