It may be a while since he last played for Arsenal but forgotten man Lucas Torreira still delivers on loan to Fiorentina.
The Uruguay international, who was also on loan at Atlético Madrid last season, last played for the Gunners in June 2020 but has just been named March’s player of the month at Fiorentina.
What’s the matter?
Well, the South American really deserves the award.
The 26-year-old made his debut with a goal against Bologna that helped secure a 1-0 win.
Then Torreira opened the scoring against Inter Milan, only Denzel Dumfries equalized and scored a 1-1 draw.
The Arsenal loanee’s efforts have helped Fiorentina climb to eighth place in Serie A on 50 points, where they are just four points away from a Europa League qualifying spot.
Arsenal say goodbye to Lucas Torreira
Unfortunately for Arsenal, nothing Torreira does at Florence earns them more than £13m.
Fiorentina have an option to buy the Fray Bentos-born maestro for £13million and according to Sport890 they are inching the terrier-like midfielder on a permanent deal.
That’s not the best news for Arsenal that has issued £26 million on Torreira in 2018.
Now the Gunners appear to be taking a 50% loss on their investment on the back of Torreira’s excellent performances in Italy.
It doesn’t bode well for the recruitment team but hopefully that £13m sum will be properly reinvested this summer.
In other news, report: Arsenal, Tottenham, Newcastle and West Ham scouts were eyeing £65m talent earlier this week
