The BBC pundit says the £45m star has sold Tottenham ‘one of the biggest signings’ for PL rivals

Micah Richards has declared that ex-Tottenham man Kyle Walker is “one of the greatest signings” in Manchester City history. as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

The former Manchester City star added that he also thinks Walker, who left Tottenham in 2017, is an “underrated” player.

Etihad staff paid £45million for Walker’s services (BBC Sport)as the England international left north London to win trophies.

He’s done that in bucket loads, winning multiple Premier League titles, FA Cups and League Cups.

The only trophy Walker is now alluding to is the Champions League, with Man City hoping to reach another final this season.

Nonetheless, Richards, who appeared at right-back, had the following to say about Walker’s qualities.

“Defensively and offensively,” Richards said. “I don’t think he’s as good as Trent at delivering the ball. But speaking of the whole combination, everything is in his game. I really can’t pick too many bugs. And he’s so consistent.

“Year after year he shows great performances. I think he’s underestimated because when they played Spurs the cross came in in the last minute of the game and Kyle Walker was at the back post. It only shut down for two seconds.

“And people say ‘Oh he’s lost his focus’ – he’s had moments in his career that he’s been to blame for and people love the fact and coming from Spurs especially for £50m.

“If you’re a defender and you go for that money then I’m not going to say people want you to fail but they expect a lot for that money. He was one of the biggest signings for Man City in modern history. He is rarely injured and always on the job.”

It could even be argued that Walker is perhaps the greatest all-time right-back in Premier League history.

The likes of Gary Neville, Pablo Zabaleta, Branislav Ivanovic, Cesar Azpilicueta or even Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is still at the beginning of his career, would have something to say about this.

But Walker can definitely put his name in the spotlight and despite turning 32 next month he’s still playing better than ever.

At the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, it would come as no surprise if Gareth Southgate chose Walker as a starter ahead of Trent, Reece James and Kieran Trippier.
