The Arizona Cardinals are hoping Isaiah Simmons will turn around in 2022.

The Arizona Cardinals have been disappointing around the end of the 2021 season. A playoff performance against the Los Angeles Rams was also disheartening, though the Rams’ near-winning Super Bowl has softened that blow a bit. little.

However, 2022 is full of excitement in Arizona, and Kyler Murray’s signing of a $231 million extension could finally quell all those rumors and seal the quarterback in the desert in a long time.

However, head coach Kliff Kingsbury has a lot to prove in 2022, and his end-of-season struggles are as evident as ever. Some players will need to step up. Otherwise, Kingsbury could face the risk of unemployment.

Which player needs the biggest move?

Cardinal Isaiah Simmons Safety Shortlisted PFF’s ‘Most Proving’

Here you have it. Former Clemson star Isaiah Simmons has a goal behind his back that is in the 2022 season.

The Cardinals picked Simmons in 8th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft and have high hopes that he will become the future cornerstone of the defense.

Unfortunately, he is yet to show signs of a top 10 pick, and Pro Football Focus’s Doug Kyed listed Simmons as the Cardinals player with the most to prove this season.

Simmons is the eighth overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft but has only 51.8 PFF points over two seasons. He played 789 snaps in the box, where he won 61.9 points, 326 snaps in defense (51.4 points), 236 snaps in the slot (40.2 levels), 39 snaps in the back corner ( 68.7 points) and 10 snaps at safe free (32.6 points). Early in the camp, Simmons played the role of “star” or nickel in the Cardinals’ defence.

All in all, it was a rough start to an NFL career for Simmons. After a lot of hype heading into the 2020 NFL Draft, he wasn’t able to put it together – despite the talent that was out there.

So far in training camp, Simmons is getting everyone’s attention.

If Simmons can turn the tide and become the star everyone expected, the Cardinals’ defense could be much better in 2022.

Simmons is taking on his new role in defense

Simmons has always been considered a unique player when he graduated from school. Defensive coordinator Vance Joseph has come up with a new title for Simmons: Star Backer.

According to Cardinals reporter Darren Urban, Simmons is enjoying the role and its name.

“I like the new name for it,” said Simmons. “I feel it’s quite appropriate.”

Los Angeles Rams star Jalen Ramsey has also played as a “star” and is everywhere on the field. Derwin James is another player who plays everywhere up front, and Simmons is expected to play a similar role in the 2022 season.

Joseph had high hopes for Simmons this season, so the role was named Star Backer.

“He’s our Star-backer now,” said Joseph. “You can call him whatever you want. We shall see. That’s what camp is for. How far can we go with playing a certain number of points. For now, it’s just reaching for the stars and hopefully it’s good enough.”

The sky really is the limit for Simmons, and if he can become the kind of player he is at Clemson, then NFC is in a world of trouble.
