Newcastle United may very well be interested in signing Zenit St Petersburg striker Sardar Azmoun, but the Russian club have been left to wait for a bid.

With Callum Wilson out injured, you can expect Newcastle to be linked with a new striker every few hours.

Chris Wood, Bamba Dieng, Divock Origi, Patrik Schick, Huge Ekitike… the list goes on and on.

Another name is Azmoun, with the Iranian striker likely to be available this month as his contract expires this summer.

Sky Sports announced in December that Newcastle are eyeing the acquisition of Azmoun.

Zenit seems to have raised hope. Knowing that Azmoun will leave for free, they want to sell Azmoun to Newcastle this month.

That’s according to Foot Mercato Anyway, those who claim the Russian champion are optimistic about a deal.

There is only one problem – Newcastle are not interested in them all and are prioritizing other strikers, meaning they have made no offers.

Many clubs probably feel the same way, having witnessed Newcastle’s newfound wealth and believe they can get a piece of the pie.

Unless Newcastle changes their mind about Azmoun, it doesn’t look like he will go to St James’ Park.

With 19 goals last season and 10 goals this season, the 27-year-old is in fine form in Russia.

Newcastle need the goals, but appear to have plans other than signing Azmoun, who has been dubbed the Messi of Iran during his career.
