The Glory director Ahn Gil-Ho has been accused of bullying

For those unfamiliar with K-Drama the glory On Netflix, the series follows a school bully victim who seeks revenge on his former bullies by taking a teaching position at the bully’s child’s elementary school. While the storyline aims to offer catharsis to other former victims of bullying, fans were shocked when the director Ahn Gil-ho was accused of bullying.

On March 10, 2023, Ahn was accused of physically assaulting a classmate in 1996 while attending an international school in the Philippines. The allegations were posted by an anonymous user on a chat website, as reported by Korea Joong Ang Daily.

The user reportedly wrote, “I find it simply absurd and unforgivable that a perpetrator of school bullying would direct a television show about bringing school bullies to justice.” At the time, Ahn also denied the claims and confirmed that he went to school in the Philippines but didn’t hit a classmate, per News.

Then, on March 12, 2023, Ahn released a statement through his law firm, Jipyong, confirming the allegations were true. The Korea Herald reports that Ahn assaulted middle school students when he was 17. He issued a statement apologizing to the victims, saying: “After hearing that his girlfriend was being teased by a group of her friends at (middle) school, Ahn became emotional and hit out at other people unforgettable wound inflicted.”

It continues: “Director Ahn said he wanted to ask for forgiveness from the bottom of his heart and would meet in person or communicate by phone to convey his apologies to those affected.”

The glory part 2 was released on March 10, 2023 with eight episodes. There is currently no further comment from Netflix or Ahn Gil-ho on the incident at this time.
