The Golden State Warriors are quietly getting back into shape

The scene in San Francisco is much different than it was for the Golden State Warriors this time last year. This time last season the team was trying to get past that Incident between Draymond Green and Jordan Poole and sat in the battle bus early on. A year later, Poole was sent to Washington in favor of Chris Paul, and the Warriors are in first place, one game behind Denver and Dallas, in the Western Conference. One of the most significant differences is that we don’t talk about Golden State much, and that’s a good thing.

Golden State simply isn’t as sharp as it was at the start of the 2022-23 season. They were coming off another NBA championship, with drama permeating the organization and questions about chemistry, among other things.

This year, the most important storyline for the Warriors revolved around how the team would proceed Feature with Paul in the cast. So far so good, as the Dubs are 6-2 to start the year and CP3 is a good fit. In fact, he is off to a historic start with 62 assists in the first eight games and only six turnovers.

Stephen Curry appears to be getting better with age, as he’s once again among the association’s top scorers, averaging 30.9 points per game. Curry was red-hot behind the arc, shooting 47.5 percent. After all these years and his increasing age, teams still don’t have an answer for Chef Curry.

Last year, Golden State’s biggest problem came on the road. They finished the season 11-30 away from Chase Center. This year, they had a road-heavy schedule to start and are 5-1. Having another general in Paul to lead the second unit has worked well since Green returned after missing the first few games.

Another big issue for the Warriors last season was turnovers. Not that it hasn’t happened in the past, but they hit rock bottom and finished last in the league. Through eight games, Golden State is closer to midfield in turnovers, which is an improvement. Even the smallest improvement can mean the biggest thing later.

These dubs look and feel like a completely different outfit, even if most of the parts remain. So far, the Warriors only have one player averaging over 20 ppg. The second leading scorer, Klay Thompson, averages 16.6 ppg. He is followed by Jonathan Kuminga with 12.7. Andrew Wiggins has had problems so far, but with this Emergence of KumingaIt may take a while for Wiggins to get back on track.

They may not be the explosive offensive team they were last season, but the Warriors are winning early and seem to be playing without drama. It feels like two years ago when the Dubs started the season with little expectation from the outside world. They had had a few injury-plagued years and were still waiting for Thompson to return.

Now is the time to fear the warriors. If you don’t see them coming and don’t take them for granted like people did two years ago. Don’t forget that they ended up winning the whole season when no one expected much from them. Some said their championship window had been slammed shut and it was time to move on. Keep an eye on this franchise as they have the pedigree and could secure one more title before their winning streak is over.
