The Lancaster County Model Railway Club showcases their creations

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. (WHTM) – The Masonic Village & Elizabethtown Model Railroad Club (MV&E Model Railroad Club) hosts monthly open houses to show off their detailed, lifelike model railroad tracks.
The MV&E Model Railroad Club was founded 26 years ago, in 1997, and since then has created model trains and layouts that almost every train enthusiast dreams of.
According to MV&E Model Railroad Club vice president Tim Halvin, the 46-member club meets regularly throughout the week to work on one of the club’s seven different gauges.
These different measuring device sizes consist of:
- G scale model (Biggest)
- Standard scale model
- S scale model
- O scale model
- HO scale model
- N scale model
- and Z scale model (smallest)
MV&E Model Railroad Club is headquartered in a 5,000 square foot area filled with over 1,600 feet of track and can run 25 to 30 trains at a time.
According to Halvin, these model layouts remain in service year-round, but members are constantly updating, remodeling, and improving the scenery and track work.
Month after month there is always something new to see at MV&E.
The members of the model railroad club don’t want to keep their hard work to themselves, so the club holds an open house every month to showcase their progress to the public.
“It’s wonderful to see the facial expressions of visitors as they enter and explore,” Halvin said in an email. “It’s a great place for families and enthusiasts.”
The open days take place every first Saturday and Sunday of the month from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. According to Halvin, the model railroad club’s season runs from October through April.
In addition, the club is holding a number of additional open houses in December, as “trains are always a popular holiday destination”.
“We hold our open house to share our love of the hobby with the public,” Halvin added. “We are very proud of what the club has created in 26 years and we want others to be able to enjoy it too.”
The next open day will take place on March 4th and 5th. The MV&E Model Railroad Club is located on Freemason Drive in the Masonic Village in Elizabethtown, which is located at 1 Masonic Drive. At the entrance, signs will point you to the spacious car park in front of the Zugverein building.
The MV&E Model Railroad Club is always accepting new members. If you are interested in membership, simply attend an open house and speak to a club member.
Admission to the open house is free, but donations are always accepted.
