The only positive the Yorkshireers can take from this deal is that they’ve already brought on three new faces and it seems like the deal itself should be finalized before the pre-season begins.

Regardless of how quickly this happens, it will take Leeds fans quite a long time to digest.

They returned to England’s top flight after almost two decades of struggling in the lower divisions and someone like Phillips was at the heart of that all-action Marcelo Bielsa side.

Bielsa turned this fresh-faced youngster, who likes to go forward and attacking, into a defensive machine but has now been snapped up by one of his pupils in Pep Guardiola.

WHO WILL JOIN RAPHINHA?

The problem for Leeds is that it’s not just Phillips they could lose this summer because Raphinha is also heavily linked with going to the exit door.

While their hard-hitting midfielder missed part of the season through injury, their right-back trickster was fit throughout the season, scoring a valuable 11 Premier League goals.

That was all the more important as Patrick Bamford was unlucky during his injury-plagued season and the Whites missed his attacking presence.

Nonetheless, it will soon become a reality that Leeds will be both without Phillips and without Raphinha next season.
