The list of January’s best-selling games was dominated by hits from 2022

While Modern Warfare 2 is unbeatable, Dead Space put in a lot of effort.

The NPD results are available in January 2023, and many surprise articles are still retaining their bestseller status months on the shelves. PlayStation exclusives cover most of the top 11 spots, but the Nintendo Switch still held out with a few spots.

Unsurprisingly, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is at the top, although that’s not to discount the fact that Dead Space remake managed to claim second place.

Most impressively, Elden Ring takes sixth place considering the game has been out for almost a full year. This could normally be attributed to the dry spell in January, but that wasn’t quite the case in early 2023, as Fire Emblem Engage, Forspoken, and Dead Space all made the top 10 despite stiff competition.

While two of these are established names in the gaming world and make sense, Forspoken not only fell as a PS5 exclusive but also as a brand new IP, so making seventh place is unexpected.

However, those three are the only games from 2023 to make the list, the rest are big titles from 2022 that continue to sell well, like God of War Ragnarok. The re-release of The Last of Us also came in at a still very impressive 11th place, thanks largely to the debut of its new HBO show.

As the show continues to grow in popularity, it’s very likely that the game will creep up the rankings and will likely be seen above 10th place in February. Speaking of February, it remains to be seen how much the roster will be stirred up by highly anticipated titles like Wild Hearts and Atomic Heart, as well as the massive success of Hogwarts Legacy.
