The Louisiana State Police release body cam footage of Shreveport officers involved in the shooting of Alonzo Bagley


SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Bodycam video showing what happened and when Alonzo Bagley, 43, was fatally shot in the chest 23-year-old Shreveport Police Officer Alexander Tyler was released Thursday morning.

Video released by the Louisiana State Police shows bodycam footage by Shreveport Police Officer Alexander Tyler of the incident.

The Louisiana State Police (LSP) said in a news release Thursday morning, “Detectives from the Louisiana State Police Investigative Bureau reviewed body-worn camera footage and other pertinent evidence. Based on their findings and in coordination with the Caddo District Attorney’s Office, Troopers arrested Shreveport Police Officer Alexander Tyler this afternoon. Tyler was committed to Caddo Correctional Center for involuntary manslaughter.”

Shreveport Police Officer Alexander Tyler, 23, has been placed on administrative leave following the fatal shooting. Tyler joined the force in May 2021.

Two Shreveport police officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at the Villa Norte Apartments on Block 1600 of Fullerton Street on Friday, February 3, 2023, according to the LSP.

Officers say they found Alonzo Bagley at the home. They say Bagley exited the back bedroom door, stepped onto the balcony and jumped to the ground before running from officers.

SPD officer Alexander Tyler pursued him on foot and found Bagley a short time later. Officials say Officer Tyler rounded a corner of the building and fired a shot at Bagley with his service pistol. The shot hit Bagley in the chest. According to the LSP, both officers immediately provided first aid.

Bagley was rushed to Ochsner LSU Hospital where he died of his wounds at 11:36 p.m. on February 3, 2023.

Alonzo Bagley’s funeral is scheduled for Saturday February 18, 2023.
