Doom runs on literally everything.
In the world of gaming, gamers ask themselves many questions like “What’s the refresh rate” and “What’s it 4 am?” But one thing is held high above them all and that is: “Can it run Doom?” This question is usually asked about the most unlikely piece of hardware, like a pregnancy test or a printer. That’s where the best-selling game of all time comes in. As it turns out, Doom can run anywhere.
Reddit user ZeppyTube recently posted a video showing their creation, E1M1, running in Minecraft. Now, before you get too excited, no, this isn’t like the hard drive or calculator someone created in the game. It’s just a world that looks like the first level of classic PC FPS.
As you might expect, this isn’t the first time someone has attempted to create the classic E1M1 level in Minecraft. Still, this might be one of the best looking and sounding examples yet. Despite the lack of enemies and relatively slow movement speed, it’s a solid base to build on if ZeppyTube or anyone else actually wants to make it like the original Doom in Minecraft.
The little Doom screen that builds itself up at the end of the level is pretty nice too. The colors aren’t exactly perfect, but they look good enough considering what colored blocks are available in Minecraft.
Now the next step is to ask if Crysis can run with it, but the modding community is probably a few years away considering people there aren’t actually running Windows 7 virtual machines yet.
