‘A light in this world’: Parents of boy killed in Oldham County car chase release statement
The family of a fifth-grader killed during a police chase in Oldham County over the weekend has released a statement. KSP said a trooper attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Interstate 71 Saturday afternoon, but the driver continued driving. As the driver exited, police say he crashed into an SUV, killing a young boy, Jake Luxemburger, and injuring his grandmother, who was behind the wheel. The Luxembourg family released this statement Monday: “We are devastated by the loss of our amazing son Jake. Words cannot describe what he meant to his family and friends. He was a light in this world, a light that was extinguished too soon.” We are grateful to our family, friends and community for the love and support we have received. “We ask for continued prayers for his loved ones, especially his grandmother, as she recovers, and for privacy as Jake’s family and friends deal with this sudden, tragic loss. We will miss his smile forever.”Jake was in fifth grade at Kenwood Station Elementary. The school sent a message to parents after the accident that said, in part: “Everyone who came into contact with Jake saw that he was a funny, sweet and kind person. He never left without a smile on his face.” The driver who fled Police officer Tymetrius Walter, 23, was arrested at the scene and charged with murder, reckless endangerment, larceny, first-degree assault and several traffic offenses.
