This is acc London news online, who report that Millwall has attempted to include a purchase clause in their deal for Shackleton. He is the second Leeds gem to leave West Yorkshire for south-east London this summer after being loaned straight to Charlie Creswell.
Leeds have allowed Cresswell to move into the den for the upcoming Championship season in a bid to give the defender regular senior minutes. He will return to Elland Road at the end of the campaign, regardless of his performances, in a Lions shirt under manager Gary Rowett.
However, Shackleton could find a long-term home in south-east London should he impress in the capital during this tenure. The 22-year-old has already made his Millwall debut after coming on as a substitute in a friendly against Swedish club Hammarby on Wednesday.
Rowett could hand his competitive bow to Shackleton when Millwall open the Championship season at home against Stoke City on July 30. The Lions will be looking to improve on last season’s ninth place in the new season after missing the playoffs by six points.
Millwall was given an option to buy Jamie Shackleton on loan with Leeds
Millwall has fended off interest from rivals Championship in loaning Shackleton from Leeds with an option to buy. the athlete claimed before his move to Den that at least three second-tier clubs were interested in the former England Under-20 international’s skills this summer.
Shackleton most recently showed his skills in a senior Leeds shirt during a competitive match in May. A cameo appearance from the bench at home against Brighton & Hove Albion after three months without Premier League football was his 79th first-team appearance for Los Blancos in all competitions.
The Whites product has sought to cement an authoritative first-team presence at Elland Road since United secured promotion to the top flight. Of his 27 Premier League games to date, Shackleton has opened just 10 over two seasons for a total of 1,157 minutes.
However, his efforts off the bench could make a positive impression. Leeds hero Jermaine Beckford welcomed Shackleton for his substitute performance against Aston Villa in October 2020.
“He just looked like he’d played every game this season,” Beckford said LUTV. “He didn’t look like a player who’d just been drafted to fill a void. He looked like he knew exactly what to do, where to be.
“His energy from his first substitution to the end of the game was absolutely phenomenal.”
