The playmaker claims he rejected Liverpool

Andreas Schjelderup told the story goal that he turned down the chance to join Liverpool.

The playmaker has admitted not joining the Premier League and European giants Liverpool hurt him.

However, the 17-year-old prodigy believes moving to FC Nordsjaelland rather than Liverpool FC has proved to be the right decision.

The Norway U21 attacking midfielder completed tryouts at several top European clubs before joining Nordsjaelland from Bodo/Glimt in 2020.

Andreas Schjelderup on Liverpool

Schjelderup tells Goal: “Obviously it was a bit difficult (to turn down Liverpool) because when you grow up you look at the big names and then you hear they want you so your head starts to spin.

“But I got a lot of help from my father and my agents who helped me make the right decision.

“It hurt a little bit in our hearts for me and my dad (not to move to Liverpool) but the move here was rather than going to an academy at U19 or U17 level.

“It felt like stepping into the ocean was the right one for me. When I started I was in the U19 team but when I was ready I knew I could make a step up to the first team.

“But at the club they said they didn’t expect me to get there so quickly! I planned to do it sooner than they thought and my plan worked.

“Of course, maybe in the future I can go to a big team. In the long run, that was the best step for me. When I’m ready, I’ll take the next step.”

Future move to Anfield possible

In our opinion, Schjelderup could definitely switch to Liverpool in the future.

After all, the Norwegian is only 17 and is at the beginning of his career.

If Liverpool wanted him before his move to Nordsjaelland, the Reds will certainly be monitoring and following his progress.

We can understand why Schjelderup decided not to join Liverpool.

The teenager would have been drafted into Liverpool academy while he now plays for Nordsjaelland’s first-team.

Schjelderup is a creative player who has good passing range and is also a very good dribbler.

We’re sure to hear a lot more about this young player in the years to come.
