The pundit claims Arsenal are close to a ‘fantastic’ transfer

Former Premier League midfielder Darren Ambrose has admitted that “as a Tottenham fan I get nervous” with Arsenal on the verge of signing Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City. as he told talkSPORT.

Tottenham have been quite busy during the summer transfer window so far, with Yves Bissouma perhaps being their standout purchase, while Arsenal have signed Fabio Vieira.

But Mikel Arteta, after missing out on Champions League football, could now add to his attacking arsenal with the transfer of Brazilian striker Jesus, who has also been linked with Spurs.

The versatile striker has played a key role in Manchester City’s trophy-winning success over the years but the arrivals of Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez aren’t exactly great for his season ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

So the 25-year-old is looking for a new home and Ambrose thinks if the deal is signed, sealed and delivered then it will be a “fantastic” purchase for the Gunners.

“All in all, a good deal,” Ambrose said. “He has something to prove. As a Spurs fan a couple of weeks ago, I’m obviously delighted with the Spurs signings and the players we’ve been associated with.

“But Arsenal seem to be moving now. If this goes over the line then he goes with a point to prove. I’m actually saying that a bit ironically.

“He comes from Manchester City and won a lot of trophies there. He just won the Premier League title and played a key role.

“But they brought in Erling Haaland, he couldn’t really come in as a number 9 anyway, they played without a number 9 so it’s a good deal for Manchester City at £45m and I think it’s a fantastic signing for Arsenal.

“I think he will do very well Gabriel Jesus. He’s a goalscorer and I think with a point to prove it’s a great signing and as a Spurs supporter I’m nervous.

Yes, Arsenal need a regular goalscorer throughout the season, but their number 9 also needs to be able to play together and get the team talking.

Jesus does this brilliantly and he will make those around him much better including his ability to play over the top three.

The only problem he has is that when you compare him to the likes of Mo Salah, Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son in terms of goals scored, he doesn’t exactly come close.

So could the Gunners possibly put more firepower on Jesus, not to mention Bukayo Saka scored 11 Premier League goals last season and Eddie Nketiah had signed a new contract, despite drawing some criticism. The pundit claims Arsenal are close to a ‘fantastic’ transfer
