Paul Merson has praised Arsenal attacking midfielder Martin Odegaard The day star and has admitted that he was wrong about him.

Merson wrote about Odegaard in The day star: “Martin Odegaard has proved me wrong and is becoming the leader Arsenal need to pass their toughest test yet. He’s the captain there now and for me the first name on the team sheet. He’s really improved and doing the business. I think players respect him because they can see he’s a real player. I didn’t see it at first, I have to admit.

“It looked like he didn’t really want to leave Real Madrid and I don’t think he uprooted any trees during his loan spell at Arsenal. He could have sulked and lost his confidence when Madrid didn’t want him anymore but he’s playing better than ever now. He is Arsenal’s point of contact and makes them tick.

“He’s not a leader when it comes to running around kicking people or barking orders. But in terms of the way he plays, he is. The way he turned it around, people are looking at him now and fair play, he’s done very, very well. He always wants the ball and knows how to use it. That too is leadership.”

Martin Odegaard a great player for Arsenal

In our opinion, Odegaard is a great player for Arsenal and is showing what he can do.

The 23-year-old struggled for playing time at Real Madrid but after a loan spell at Arsenal he is now showing loyal Emirates Stadium fans what he can do when the manager believes in him and plays regularly.

Just like Mikel Arteta does.

Odegaard is a very creative playmaker who has vision and is able to choose his teammates with precision.

The Norway international’s attacking midfielder has started adding goals to his game and that can only help him continue to develop his game.

The Arsenal No. 8th has scored five goals and provided three assists in 22 Premier League starts so far this season. The pundit makes a note about Arsenal’s 23-year-old
