The radio host will NOT return to the airwaves after losing it to Australian netballers

Radio announcer Andrew ‘Cosi’ Costello has been fired from Hit Network’s SAFM breakfast show Bec, Cosi & Lehmo days after he blasted Australian netball players for their Gina Rinehart sponsorship saga.

Andrew confirmed on his Facebook page this week that he will not be returning to the show after it was confirmed to air on Friday.

Andrews co-hosts Rebecca Morse and Anthony “Lehmo” Lehmann will return to the airwaves without him on November 4th.

“I was just told that SAFM has decided to go ahead in 2023 without Bec, Cosi and Lehmo’s breakfast show,” he wrote on the page.

“I have loved SAFM so much since I first walked through the doors as a pig farmer from Kadina 23 years ago. They gave me my start in media and it’s been a wonderful run ever since. I wish you all the best.’

Speaking to the Adelaide Advertiser on Saturday, Andrew claimed he hadn’t given an explanation as to why he was given the shoe.

He also noted that it wasn’t the first time he’d been dropped from a SAFM radio show.

In 2011, he was also dropped from his radio show with Amber Petty, Dave ‘Rabbit’ Rabbetts and Dale ‘Louie’ Lewis.

“Eleven years ago…they sat me down and kicked me out. I was offended. I walked out on Greenhill Rd and cried my eyes out,” he recalled.

“I said, OK, I’ll never get in that position again; I will never fall victim to a broadcaster that dictates my future like that,” he continued.

“Fast forward to yesterday and they did it again but this time I’m not sad. Because I have so many other things to do.’

Andrew made headlines last week after striking Australian netballers for ‘spitting in the face’ of mining tycoon Gina Rinehart for rejecting them $15 million sponsorship deal through her company, Hancock Prospecting.

The Diamonds refused to wear the company logo in support of Indigenous player Donnell Wallam over racist comments made by Ms Rinehart’s father, Lang Hancock, about Indigenous people four decades ago.

Andrew blasted the netballers’ decision in an angry post on social media.

“You’d think a group of ladies would hug and welcome a successful businesswoman like Gina. Instead, they spat in her face,” he wrote.

Costello recalled how Ms Rinehart had generously supported his charity Cows for Cambodia because of her “love for the cattle industry”.

Costello claimed that the billionaire heiress would now find someone “more grateful to take her money” and that he felt sympathy for her since she just “wanted to help.”

“She has helped us endlessly. Never ask for anything in return,” he said.

“She was kind enough to sponsor this netball team with $15 million. She didn’t have to. She has decided to help them.”

“To the team members who got the s***s. You won.

“You lost the sponsor. But at what cost to the rest of the team or the sport???? Time will tell,’ he continued.
