The Resident Evil 4 Remake demo has a hidden difficulty setting

Meet Dr Knowing Salvador in its final form.

With Resident Evil 4 Remake just weeks away from release, Capcom has finally released a free playable demo on PlayStation, Xbox and PC. The demo itself is fairly short and lets you play as Leon in the introductory sequence where he first comes to the village.

Even on the game’s default difficulty, some players might find the demo quite difficult as it won’t be long before you’re greeted by villagers and the terrifying, chainsaw-wielding Dr. Salvador to be swarmed. However, if you really want to step things up, there’s a hidden difficulty setting you can unlock.

It’s called Mad Chainsaw Mode, and it’s a setting that appears randomly when you click New Game on the main menu. If you want to try this, keep pressing New Game on the main menu and keep going back until you see the prompt. Then confirm that you want to try the demo in Mad Chainsaw mode.

There are a few things to note about this one: You only get one life, Dr. Salvador is even more powerful and there are new enemy placements to contend with. This challenge is certainly not for the faint of heart, and we definitely recommend beating the demo on its default difficulty at least first.

Resident Evil 4 Remake is scheduled for release on March 24th for PC and consoles. The Resident Evil 4 Remake demo has a hidden difficulty setting
