The Samsung Galaxy S23 could launch later than expected

One of the questions we’re still asking about the Samsung Galaxy S23 is when exactly we’ll see it – and the latest from the rumor mill points to a reveal date a bit later than expected, if only by a week or two.
According to experienced tipster @TheGalox_ (opens in new tab) (over Notebook check (opens in new tab)) Samsung is planning a mid to late February launch for the phones, with an internal debate over the handsets’ pricing leading to the date being pushed back.
We’ve previously heard reports from multiple sources that the Galaxy S23 range would be showing up in the first week of February, but now it seems we can wait until later in the month for these phones to be officially launched.
Is the price correct?
The point about the price dilemma is interesting. Samsung will want to make a healthy profit without scaring off potential buyers, and it seems the company has yet to decide how much it will charge for these phones.
Coming back to the Samsung Galaxy S22 series, these phones started at $799 / £769 / AU$1,249 (Standard), $999 / £949 / AU$1,549 (Plus) and $1,199 / £1,149 / AU$1,849 ( Ultra), which gives us some idea of what to expect from the new range for 2023.
The same tipster who says the phones are delayed suggests price points of $799, $899, and $1,199 for the three devices in the Galaxy S23 lineup, but that’s more speculation than anything. We’ll find out for sure in a few months.
Analysis: price pressure
From what we’ve heard about the Samsung Galaxy S23 series so far, it doesn’t sound like these phones will take a huge leap over their predecessors, as many of the same components from the 2022 phones are said to be used in the 2023 versions.
Given the tough economic times we find ourselves in, it’s not hard to figure out why. Most people are tight on their budget, the impact of the pandemic is still being felt throughout supply chains, and material costs continue to rise.
With that in mind, Samsung has to work hard not to price the Galaxy 23 phones to a higher level than the Galaxy S22 phones that came before them. Certain compromises have to be made for this.
However, as this new leak shows, the company is keen not to overcharge consumers, especially in the face of stiff competition from Apple, Google, and others. Raise the price too much and people will just go for more affordable options.
