The Sky reporter dismisses possible worries about Tottenham’s ‘daring’ transfer target

Dharmesh Sheth has revealed that Tottenham’s potential deal to sign Djed Spence from Middlesbrough is ‘ongoing for a while’. as he told Sky Sports News.

The Sky reporter added that Nottingham Forest are “keeping an eye on the situation” after the newly promoted side came to terms with losing the player to Spurs.

The attacking full-back which Ian Wright called “bold” on his podcast in Januaryproved a lot of people wrong for what he did on the City Ground last term.

With Forest being newly promoted and Spurs in the Champions League, many would point out Spence is going in the obvious direction and that’s where he appears to want to go.

But Sky reporter Sheth dropped a possible concern about the deal and how it’s only dragging on as pre-season draws near.

“Djed Spence was the interesting one,” Sheth said. “Of course he was on loan at Forest last season and returned to Middlesbrough.

“We believe a deal with Tottenham is in the works. But I was also told in the Spence situation that Forest is keeping an eye on that because the deal with Tottenham is still going for a while.

“Forest thinks, ‘If that doesn’t work, is there a way they could possibly bring Spence back to town?’

“But the other two they’re definitely interested in, Neco Williams and Morgan Gibbs-White. And they’re also keeping an eye on Spence’s situation.”

In terms of deals that would pose complications, the signing of Yves Bissouma from Brighton would have been a problem as he was bought for a transfer fee of £25million.

The other two – Fraser Forster and Ivan Perisic – joined on free transfers, so getting, signing, sealing and delivering those deals was a lot easier.

Nonetheless, with the north London club’s return to the Champions League, it’s even more important that the squad is properly replenished.

And so far things are going well but it’s pretty clear with Spence more faces are needed, particularly creativity in midfield and depth behind Harry Kane.
