Corresponding The mirrorAnthony Gordon is now desperate to leave Everton after Chelsea made a second offer for the youngster.
This is certainly an interesting turn of events.
Gordon, a childhood Evertonian, hadn’t made much of a fuss this summer despite offers and interest from Newcastle and Tottenham, but now that Chelsea are after him he wants to leave.
Whether or not that puts both Spurs back on alert at Newcastle remains to be seen, but reading between the lines it seems a move to Stamford Bridge is in the cards for the attacker.
In fact, Gordon Lampard has reportedly said he wants to join Chelsea and he is urging his manager to consider that offer.
Lampard, of course, knows the appeal of playing for Chelsea, having spent most of his career at Stamford Bridge.
Gordon was one of Everton’s star players in what was an incredibly boring season last season and the Merseyside club won’t want to lose Gordon having already sold Richarlison this summer.
Consider that Dominic Calvert-Lewin is still struggling with injuries and there’s even more reason to believe Everton will be desperate to keep Gordon.
However, when Chelsea call it’s hard to tell now and if Gordon does consider moving away from Goodison, Everton may just be delaying the inevitable.
An offer of over £40m has already been made but Everton are reportedly holding closer to £50m.
With Chelsea more than happy to increase their bids in pursuit of Marc Cucurella earlier this month, there is reason to believe they will meet Everton’s terms for Gordon and this report will only encourage further bids from the Blues if they do are needed.
This is a situation that could change rapidly in the coming days.
