The Unlikely Hero ends the slingshot of NL

On a team consisting of MVP candidates Ronald Acuna Jr. and Freddie Freeman, hitters Matt Olson and Pete Alonso, and Rookie of the Year leader Corbin Carroll, Colorado Rockies catcher Elias Diaz was the hero the All- It took National League stars to finish a nine-year skid.

Diaz, a first-time All-Star, hit the go with a two-run home run in Tuesday night’s eighth inning to give the NL team its first All-Star Game win since 2012.

The American League team entered this year’s Midsummer Classic after beating the NL 40-22. The All-Star Game did not take place in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

– According to ESPN Stats & Info, Diaz batted heavily in the first All-Star game of his career, becoming the 24th player to do so. –Romano was mentored during the review on the mound and retired with a coach after just five throws.

“[Romano]threw his last pitch in the bullpen before walking out (and) just felt a slight tightness in his lower back,” AL manager Dusty Baker said on FOX’s coverage of the game. “We must take every precaution and look after these players.”

–Seattle Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez received a thunderous ovation from the home crowd at the end of the seventh pitch as he stepped onto the plate for the first time. In the end he struck.

In the ninth game, he fought Philadelphia Phillies closer Craig Kimbrel again after a two-out walk on Astros’ Kyle Tucker. As the crowd chanted his name, Rodriguez eventually managed his own walk before Kimbrel cheered for the Cleveland Guardians’ Jose Ramirez to end the game.

–Los Angeles Angels two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani went 1-0 up with a strikeout and a walk. He didn’t pitch. Ohtani is struggling with a blister on the middle finger of his right hand, an ailment stemming from a broken fingernail that forced him out of a June 27 game against the Chicago White Sox.

“A little hiccup with my finger here and there, but other than that I’m really healthy,” Ohtani said through a translator during the broadcast. “I’m just trying to stay healthy and end the season strong.”
