The upcoming slasher that satirizes ’80s horror icons is all about killing straight white men

The killer knows what he likes.

If you’ve ever thought that horror movies didn’t delve enough into the realm of politics, an upcoming indie horror movie is ready to invade your home like the Kool-Aid Man. While there have been subtle horror movies lined up just enough, Poundcake is here to serve its obvious purpose of stirring up controversy while serving up satire.

The plot is quite simple: a huge, terrifying figure stalks people in New York City and murders them through rather gruesome means. However, this killer only targets a certain demographic. That’s right, this killer only targets straight white men. The killer’s motivation and origin will certainly be a focus of the film, even if the denizens of the film world don’t take it that seriously. Some deride it as a hoax perpetrated by the media or laugh at the absurdity.

Poundcake is quite unique in that it appears that most of the runtime won’t be given to the killer’s victims at all, rather they will be background wear for the podcasts and talk shows where characters discuss the killer and what might be happening in the city.

The ridiculous victim aspect is clearly a game with Jason Vorhees and Freddy Krueger only killing teenagers, but with an added political aspect to garner attention. Poundcake is unlikely to be the next Jordan Peele-esque horror film, but the trailer definitely delivers when it comes to the menacing killer.

Please note that this video contains some swear words.

There is currently no information available as to when or where eager viewers can expect Poundcake. Some of director Onur Tukel’s earlier work has ended up on the Freevee streaming service, so Poundcake’s certainly a possibility.
