On March 3, the day the US Treasury sanctioned the Russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov, a cargo ship carrying 53,000 tons of pig iron bound for a Mississippi steel mill arrived in Mobile, Alabama. It came from a subsidiary of the company that makes up a large part of Mr Usmanov’s fortune, shipping records show. Another subsidiary owns the trucking company that delivered it.
It was all legal.
