‘The Voice’ Season 22 Knockout Rounds Episode 3 Live Recap
The episode begins with host Carson Daly asking the coaches how they’re feeling ahead of final night of knockouts and if new coach Camila Cabello is ready to start the live shows.
Team Gwen: Cara Brindisi vs Justin Aaron vs Kayla Von Der Heide
Gwen Stefani assembled her three “vets” for her second knockout. Cara Brindisi sang Bonnie Raitt’s “Love Me Like a Man”, Justin Aaron sang Tevin Campbell’s “Can We Talk”, and Kayla Von Der Heide sang REM’s “Losing My Religion”. In rehearsals, Gwen found that each singer improved and had the ability to go to the next level.
Camila Cabello called these three performances “the sexiest knockout.” Blake Shelton said that all three mastered their own lane and that Gwen’s decision may have to depend on previous performances in the season. John Legend admits he couldn’t make up his mind. Gwen broke down in tears as she spoke to the singers and voted Justin Aaron as the winner of the knockout.
Camila wishes she had something else to steal to use on Cara, but Cara Brindisi and Kaya Von Der Heide went home.
Team Blake: Austin Montgomery vs Eva Ullmann vs Brayden Lape
For the showdown of Team Blake’s youngest teammate, Austin Montgomery sang George Strait’s “You Look So Good In Love”, Eva Ullmann sang Season 21 coach Ariana Grande’s “Dangerous Woman” and Brayden Lape sang “Mercy” by Brett Young. Coach Blake wished all three singers the best of luck, noting how much pressure the Three Way Knockouts twist is this year.
Gwen was brought to tears by Brayden’s performance and Camila agreed his tone was beautiful but Austin Montgomery stole the show. Gwen also praised Eva’s ability to perform the song and John recommended Austin’s. In the end, Blake chose the 15-year-old Brayden Lape as the winner of the knockout.
Austin Montgomery and Eva Ullmann were eliminated.
Team Legend: Emma Brooke vs. The Marilynds vs. Kim Cruse
For Team Legend’s final fight, Emma Brooke covered Gabby Barrett’s “I Hope”, The Marilynds covered Snow Patrol’s “Chasing Cars” and Kim Cruse “I Can’t Stand the Rain” by Ann Peebles (in the style of Tina Turner). The stakes in this battle are higher than ever. All other coaches have already used their steal, so only one act will continue in the competition and the other two will go home.
John’s fellow coaches had plenty of positive reviews for all three acts but admit they were blown away by Kim when Gwen asked to see her performance again. John told Emma that he was proud of her stage performance and vocals, Kim that he was proud of her precision and fire, and the Marilynds that he loved her harmonies and emotion. Then he chose Kim Cruse as a knockout winner.
Emma Brooke and the Marilynds were eliminated.
Team Gwen: Alyssa Witrado vs Daysia vs Sasha Hurtado
Team Gwen’s final knockout round of the season was teased earlier this week on the YouTube page The Voice.. The results and a glimpse of rehearsals will be shown tonight, but viewers can see Alyssa Witrado cover Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now,” Daysia Oleta Adams’ “Get Here” and Sasha Hurtado perform Ed Sheeran’s “Make It.” raining” before the episode to try and predict the results.
