Former “The Voice” contestant Kata Hay has been sentenced to prison.
A former The Voice contestant will serve six months in prison after pleading guilty to sexual assault in Tennessee. Kata Hay was convicted in Sumner County Court on Aug. 17, 2022 after admitting to unlawful sexual contact, Heavy court documents show.
The 35-year-old country singer appeared on season 10 of “The Voice” in 2016 as part of coach Christina Aguilera’s team. She was eliminated from the show during the live playoffs. According to court records, Hay’s real name is Kata Huddleston. Originally from Oklahoma, she has toured Nashville as a musician and performer since her time with The Voice.
Hay was arrested on June 8, 2022 after being accused of having sexual contact with her friend’s teenage son. according to TMZ. According to court records viewed by Heavy, Hay was in court on August 17 and pleaded guilty to charges.
Hay was released on $7,500 bail but began serving her sentence at the Sumner County Jail after her conviction, according to online records. She was also ordered to pay more than $1,600 in fines and charges, including a $200 sex offender fine, court filings show.
Hay was accused of forcibly kissing the 16-year-old boy and inappropriately touching him outside of his jeans.
According to WKRN, Hay was staying with a friend’s family in the White House, Tennessee, when the incidents happened. The victim’s mother told the court that Hay had known her son since he was nine.
WKRN wrote of the sentencing hearing: “The victim provided details of at least two incidents, saying that Kata imposed herself on him in June; she stuck her tongue in his mouth and inappropriately touched him outside of his jeans. The victim said he now suffers from frequent panic attacks because of her actions. The family said they want help for the singer and will continue to pray for her.”
Hay pleaded guilty but told the court she was drinking and was intoxicated when the incidents occurred. According to WKRN, Hay told a judge, “No, it wasn’t a lie. So I pleaded guilty, but it didn’t happen that way. I don’t want to cause anyone any more suffering. I’m really sorry.” According to WKRN, Hay told the court she had been sober for 30 days.
According to court documents, Hay was also accused of making sexual comments about the boy in front of his parents. WKRN wrote at the time of her arrest“A Sumner County affidavit states that the 35-year-old performer made sexual comments about her friend’s 16-year-old son and allegedly made sexual gestures toward the teenager later that night. The two kissed and she tried to get the teenager to touch her inappropriately.” Court records show the incidents happened in June, just before her arrest.
Hay was previously arrested on a DUI charge and probation violation

According to court records, Hay was previously arrested. She was arrested in Davidson County, Tennessee for driving under the influence on charges. She was also accused of violating her probation, court records from Heavy show.
In May 2016, Hay was arrested in Davidson County and charged with the misdemeanor DUI. Hay pleaded guilty and was given a suspended sentence. She was later arrested in 2017 for violating parole and sentenced to 11 months and 29 days in prison, with all but seven days of parole suspended.
In 2019, Hay was subpoenaed in Davidson County for driving with a suspended driver’s license, court records show. Hay could not be reached by Heavy for comment on her conviction in the sexual assault case, and it was not immediately clear if she had an attorney who could speak on her behalf.
