The war in Ukraine is driving food prices to record highs

Global food prices hit a new record high in March, the United Nations said on Friday, as the war in Ukraine threatens food shortages in some of the world’s poorest countries and deeper inflation challenges for Western food makers.

The war has disrupted Ukraine’s staggering exports of wheat, sunflower oil and other products, and disrupted food exports from Russia, turning a part of the world upside down that’s increasingly vital to feeding a growing world population.
