The original The Witcher game returns with a remake in Unreal Engine 5.
Today CD Projekt announced that a remake of the original The Witcher is in the works. It is developed by Polish studio Fool’s Theory in Unreal Engine 5.
The remake was teased a few weeks ago by CD Projekt itself, codenamed Canis Maioris. The game will be “built from the ground up” using Epic Games’ new engine. It will share the same toolset as the upcoming all-new Witcher trilogy.
That being said, it will likely be a while, as the press release clarifies that the game is in early development while its creators promise it will be made “with the utmost care and attention to detail” and urges fans to be patient. It will also be some time before CD Projekt and Fool’s Theory are ready to provide more details.
While the development is handled externally by Fool’s Theory, CD Projekt takes on the creative supervision.
If you’re not familiar with the developer, it contains many veterans of The Witcher series and is based in Bielsko-Biała, Poland.
They are known for Seven: The Days Long Gone and have helped on popular games like Baldur’s Gate III, Divinity: Original Sin II and Outriders.
