The Witness is here to put an end to the Traveler, the Light, and the Wardens in Destiny 2: Lightfall

Open your eyes, watchman!

A new (and possibly final) trailer has aired for Lightfall, the upcoming annual expansion for Destiny 2 courtesy of Bungie alongside PlayStation’s latest State of Play. Previously, the most recent expansion was The Witch Queen, which arrived on February 22, 2022. She appears as the next chapter in the Light and Darkness saga.

The trailer itself was debuted at the first State of Play presentation in 2023 ahead of the February 28, 2023 release date. With the expansion, Wardens get a second dark force, this time in the form of Strand, giving us a lot more time with the nefarious witness. Lightfall also promises a host of long-overdue quality of life improvements and will be released concurrently with Season 20 of Destiny 2 – Season of Defiance.

The trailer reveals what appears to be the opening movie for Lightfall, and showcases the kind of blockbuster action that longtime gamers have come to expect. Of note, the expansion will bring what appears to be interstellar war vibes back to the world of Destiny. This is particularly notable as many fans feel it’s a long time coming; it has been otherwise absent since the days of the 2015 Taken King expansion.

The trailer also shows a bit more of the neon-colored city of Neomuna that exists on the planet Neptune. This is where Wardens will spend most of the new campaign as we try to uncover the mysteries of our new abilities, as well as gain some allies and hopefully a glimpse into rescuing the source of our power, the Traveler.

Finally, a sense of dread surrounds the trailer as audiences are once again reminded that “our end is near” by the Witness – mankind’s oldest enemy. This comes on the tails of the Abherrent Imperative mission from the February 14th reset that ended the final Season of the Seraph finale.

One way or another, it’s very clear that the ancient battle between the Witness and the Traveler is nearing its epic conclusion. Lightfall is out next week on February 28, 2023 for PC, Xbox and PlayStation and is available to pre-order for $49.99 at participating outlets.
