These YouTubers-turned-directors are responsible for Sundance’s most gruesome hit horror

It turns out the dead have some pretty scary things to say.

YouTuber siblings Danny and Michael Philippou are the driving force behind the RackaRacka channel, which uploads some crazy videos, so it’s no surprise their first foray into feature films is making waves at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. The movie is called Talk to Me, a horror film about how “spirit summoning has become the latest local party craze.”

After a teenager tries to communicate with her mother, all hell breaks loose (literally), and “as the line between worlds crumbles and disturbing supernatural visions increasingly haunt Mia, she hastens to undo the horrific damage.” before it’s irreversible.” Unfortunately, there’s no way to watch Talk to Me online, something Sundance has been offering for a number of years.

RackaRacka’s impressive library of 172 videos on YouTube is pretty diverse, but plenty of videos prove the channel is no stranger to horror. One of the most notable pieces of evidence is a haunting rap music video from Ronald McDonald’s perspective. Considering their videos seem to veer towards the darker side of things along those lines, it’s to be expected that Sundance would include a disclaimer in its listing that the film “contains extreme violence and gore.”

Sundance is first and foremost a film festival, but also how indie filmmakers gain distribution for their work. Because of this, it’s unknown when Talk to Me will reach a wider audience, but given how notorious it is for its visceral horror, it’s sure to find the right company.

While Sundance is typically known for producing critically-loved drama films, its horror side certainly isn’t letting up. Thanks to Sundance, we got movies like Mandy. With all hope, Talk to Me will be coming to a streaming service before the end of the year.
