Developer Storm in a Cup has announced its latest project, Steel Seed, with a debut announcement trailer that teases a world in shambles and forces underground humanity to start anew while AI occupies the surface. Contrary to the typical sci-fi story of mankind fighting machines, however, it is actually humans who caused the downfall of the earth. It’s tentatively slated for a 2024 release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
But as you will see above, a new threat has emerged on the surface whose origin remains unclear whether it is human or AI. Players are ready to uncover the meaning behind the chaos, with the protagonist wielding a rather fearsome-looking blade while dealing with the monstrosities that await.
Steel Seed marks a notable departure from Storm in a Teacup’s previous work, as in 2019 the team also released Close to the Sun: a first-person horror game set in 1897. The team’s latest work will fuse action-adventure and stealth into one finale package, with the trailer exuding eerie vibes reminiscent of Nier: Automata and Steelrising.
