Thousands of students begin summer school in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) – The School District of Philadelphia kicked off the first day of summer school on Monday with thousands of students participating.

Programs will help students reinforce what they already know while developing skills for the next grade.

Philadelphia Superintendent of Schools, Dr Tony Watlington, said: “We are delighted that we will have approximately 15,000 youth across the district participating in summer school programs this summer starting today. .

Summer school programs are not like traditional summer school.

Students will participate in summer camp activities on top of academic courses.

“Our students don’t necessarily just learn skills but have the opportunity to apply skills in different situations,” said Dr. Malika Savoy-Brooks, Head of Academic Support, School District of Philadelphia. actual situation.

The district’s programs are now full, but the city is also offering programs and is open through the Office of Children and Families.
