Tom Bergeron announces “new project” with DWTS Pro

ABC

Former “Dancing With the Stars” host Tom Bergeron announced on Feb. 18 that he and retired professional dancer Cheryl Burke are collaborating on a “new project.”

Here’s what you need to know:

Tom Bergeron & Cheryl Burke had a “productive meeting” for their new project together

On Saturday, February 18th, Bergeron and Burke met at Burke’s house to work on their new project. Bergeron teased the project on Instagram, writes: “A productive meeting with @cherylburke about our new project was interrupted by an uninvited guest. Or was it?”

The “uninvited guest” in question was a fly, which the former “Dancing With the Stars” host tried to kill – except it turned out to be a piece of black fluff. Bergeron captioned the video, “I posted this in a ‘Story’ yesterday but it’s too good to let go after 24 hours so I’m reposting it here. I especially love it when @cherylburke says (about the non-existent bow tie) ‘She moved!’”

In the video, Bergeron tries to sneak up on the “fly” and says, “We’re trying to kill a fly, Cheryl is freaking out about that fly.”

He then reveals his secret fly-killing trick: “Well, there’s a technique some of you probably know – if you clap over its head, it flies right into your hand. It is the absolute truth.”

“Tom, don’t lose the bow tie. Focus. I hate flies,” Burke said. “It was moving. It’s right there! Tom, look! It’s the toy. Oh my god, that’s not a fly!

“It’s not a fly, it’s bloody fluff,” Bergeron exclaimed in mock desperation. “And I shall be the old man who cannot see!”

Either way, the two at least had a “productive meeting” about their “new project”, which really fascinated us.

Maybe it’s Tom Bergeron’s new script called Family Tree

In early January, the two teased a new project on their Instagram Stories, the same day that Bergeron posted a photo of a script for a feature film called Family Tree. Maybe Burke is involved?

Bergeron captioned the post, “Stay tuned…” and one of the first comments on the post is Burke leaves a heart emoji. Also, one of Bergeron’s emojis on the post is a Christmas tree, so we have a feeling it’s probably a family-centric Christmas movie.

The screenplay was written by Katie Amanda Keane and Marla Sokoloff, and the story is being directed as being directed by Bergeron and his good friend William Shatner.

In the comments someone asked Bergeron if he’s “working on a new game show or a TV show,” to which he answered“Nope. Play 2023 in different sandboxes.”

And in another comment, Bergeron offered more information about the project.

“@williamshatner and I dreamed up the story (inspired by a real incident in my life) and @katieamandakeane and @marlasokoloff masterfully crafted it into the script I’m holding. I hope to share more information soon,” wrote Bergeronto which answered Shatner, “Let me correct that. @tombergeron shared a story, I asked the right questions 🤔 and brought out the best bits that he didn’t originally tell me 🤨 and told Tom this was going to be a great project. So…why is my name the second?”

About that joke Bergeron wrote“And so it begins…” to which answered Shatner“Did it ever end?”

Maybe Burke has a hand in Family Tree. Or maybe Bergeron is a guest on her new YouTube series, Diving Deep, where she interviews her famous friends while they paint diamonds. Burke retired after season 31 of “Dancing With the Stars,” and she said further the November 22 episode of her podcast, Burke in the Game that she’s in talks for a new TV show, so getting involved in a movie wouldn’t be that far-fetched for her either.

Fans will need to “stay tuned in” to learn more. Dancing With the Stars returns for its 32nd season on Disney Plus in Fall 2023.
