Tom Bergeron breaks his silence on Tyra Banks’ DWTS exit

Tom Bergeron was replaced by Tyra Banks ahead of season 29 of Dancing With the Stars. Now, after three seasons, Banks has been replaced by ballroom dancing legend Julianne Hough.

Bergeron commented on Banks’ exit in one go Instagram Responding to a fan after he posted a photo of a beer on St. Patrick’s Day.

“Do you celebrate anything special besides St. Patrick’s Day?” asked a fan. “Karma has struck again! We all jumped for joy and hoped that with the luck of the Irish we’d have the #BeswtHostEver back patrolling his realm where he belongs!”

answered Bergeron“Thanks! It will be interesting to see what happens with the show. Disney+ has bled under Chapek $$ and the returning Bob Iger has promised to cut costs. On top of that, the ad numbers for DWTS were never released (different than for The Mandalorian, for example), which doesn’t bode well either. I wish them the best of luck.”

Bergeron originally said he would not be returning to the show for any reason, he opened that door in late 2022 when he was on one Episode of the Burke in the Game podcast..

“Well, there are other people there,” Bergeron said of his return as host. “I appreciate your question, but there are other people in these jobs right now.”

With Banks’ replacement already announced, it’s clear Bergeron won’t be returning to the show for the upcoming season.

Tyra Banks says it was ‘time’ to leave the show

A report from TMZ first revealed that Tyra Banks would be leaving the show.

“I feel like it’s really time to focus on my business and entrepreneurship,” Banks said. “And produce more television, but behind the scenes. I think it’s time to move from the dance floor to the stock market. Microphone failure.”

When asked if she was really leaving the show, Banks said, “I think it’s about time. …I am an entrepreneur at heart. My heart, my soul is my business. I really, really want to focus on my business and you can’t do that to host a show. So you’ll see how I create things, not just host them.”

Julianne Hough will be in Skybox and Alfonso Ribeiro will be hosting the new season

Julianne Hough will take part in the competition, according to a report dated March 20, 2023 diversity.

“It’s a great honor to be back as a co-host on ‘Dancing with the Stars.’ The show holds such a special place in my heart because of the many years and different roles I’ve had the privilege of being a part of,” Hough told Variety. “The incredible team that brings the ballroom to life every night has been my family for 17 years. I’m really looking forward to reuniting with Alfonso, Carrie Ann, Bruno, Derek, the incredibly talented professionals and the amazing cast on the dance floor.”

She added, “The energy is magnetic every time you step into the ballroom and I can’t wait to feel it again – and of course to share it all with the absolute best and most loyal fans – for another exciting season.”

Hough was previously a professional dancer on the show, winning seasons 4 and 5. She left the competition in 2009. Then Hough returned as a judge from 2014-2017. Most recently, she was a guest judge in Season 31.

Alfonso Ribeiro will also return to the ballroom. He takes over Banks’ hosting duties and Hough is placed in the skybox to interview dancers and celebrities after their performance.
