Tom Hanks was hoping for a duel with Tim Allen amid Chris Evans’ buzz role in Lightyear

Tom Hanks has opened up about Pixar’s decision to cast Chris Evans as Buzz in Lightyear instead of Tim Allen.
At the time of the film’s announcement, many Toy Story fans were expecting Allen to reprise his role as Buzz in the 2022 spin-off.
Disney and Pixar’s new addition to the franchise serves as the origin story for Buzz Lightyear, who has been primarily voiced by Allen in other films.
Here’s what Woody actor Tom Hanks had to say about Allen’s replacement.
Tom Hanks opens up on Tim Allen’s replacement
Tom Hanks would have preferred his friend and fellow actor Tim Allen to reprise his role as Buzz in Lightyear.
Speak with CinemaBlend In an interview published June 25, Hanks said he hopes to face Allen at the box office when asked about the screening of his new movie Elvis.
“How about this? I actually wanted to compete against Tim Allen, but then they wouldn’t let Tim Allen do it,” Hanks said. “I don’t understand.”
Hanks was asked if Evans would be doing the voiceover in the new film, to which he responded, “Yeah, yeah, I know.”
He added, “Here’s the thing: I want to go back to the theater with some strangers and go with something in common. That’s what I want to do and see a movie with it [Allen] – I look forward to it.”
The director explained why Evans replaced Allen
Lightyear director Angus MacLane recently addressed the decision to replace Allen in the 2022 spin-off.
In conversation with vanity fair On June 8, MacLane said, “Tim’s version of Buzz is a little bit sillier and a little bit dumber, and so he’s the comic relief. In this movie, Buzz is the action hero. He’s serious and ambitious and funny, but not in a goofy way that would undermine the drama.
“Chris Evans has the seriousness and movie star quality that our character needed to differentiate him and the movie from Tim’s version of the toy in Toy Story.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Evans praised Allen’s performance and said he used it “as a guide” for his role.
“I would be a fool not to acknowledge the work that he has done,” said the Marvel star.
